Optional Day Reinstated!
As you might remember, last year the legislature cut educators pay by 1.9%. During negotiations we had to find a way to deal with that cut. Our bargaining team agreed to give up one building optional day. Here is the language:
2011-2012 School Year
The District will maintain the existing salary schedule. In order to assist the District in addressing the cut in state funding, certificated staff will have one (1) less building optional day to access under Section 43. The District will reinstate this day should the Legislature reverse the 1.9% reduction.
The legislature did not reverse the 1.9% reduction, so we did not get the day back this year. However, here is the langauge for next year:
2012-2013 School Year
The District will maintain the existing salary schedule and reinstate the one (1) building optional day. If, however, during the contract term the state reduces funding further that will impact the 2012-2013 school year, certificated staff will have one (1) less building optional day to access under Section 43 during the 2012-2013 school year and the provisions of Section 21 (K), Contingent Reopener, shall also apply.
There were no further cuts to education this legislative session, so we get our day back. This means that for the 2012-13 school year you will have 2 individual optional days, 2 building optional days and 3 district optional day.
